Ethical manufacturing is about ensuring the fair labor practices, environmental responsibility, and transparency in production. Hlai Studio's mission in ethical practices not only to protect workers' rights, but also contribute to sustainable economic growth and a healthier planet. With consumers becoming more conscious of how products are made, businesses that prioritize ethical manufacturing will maintain trust and long-term success for their brand.
Indonesia, as one of the world’s largest manufacturing hubs, has faced many challenges in maintaining ethical standards in various industries. One major concern in Indonesia’s manufacturing sector is worker wages. In early 2024, the Indonesian government announced a minimum wage increase of around 3–4%, depending on the region. However, labor unions argue that this increase is still not enough to match the rising cost of living. Not to mention, child labor issue, and safe work environment which often forgotten by fast fashion manufacturer.
The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to global pollution, responsible for approximately 10% of all carbon emissions and a massive amount of waste. Hlai Studio offers a sustainable fabric option as a solution: an ethical, eco-friendly approach that minimizes harm to the planet while promoting fair working conditions, by focusing on quality over quantity, using materials that are renewable, biodegradable, or recycled.
Our small MOQ of 50 pcs also allows another sustainable option which is to use deadstock fabric. Deadstock fabric is a leftover fabric that fashion brands would otherwise discard because it is a result of overproduction from the factory. Using deadstock fabric, we can reduce their environmental impact and create unique and limited products. We have partnered up with some fabric suppliers that can provide deadstock fabric here in Bandung, Indonesia.
